  9. An utility to convert MPEG Audio files to IFF-8SVX ones. Works
  10. with FTPMount. Uses mpega.library by Stéphane Tavenard. Freeware.

  12. I wrote Forrest Amp because I've got a slow CPU and IDE harddrive;
  13. I can't listen to MP3's with good quality in real time and IDE hd
  14. consumes too much CPU when listening to big (16-bit) AIFF samples.

  16. Before I had to download MP3, convert MP3 to AIFF and convert AIFF
  17. to 8SVX. Now I can convert MP3 to 8SVX while downloading.

  19. Forrest is a bit restricted, since I wrote it for my own use (and
  20. this is the first version). It outputs only Mono samples, and the
  21. decoding quality is always High. However, you can specify the
  22. frequency divide value (default is 2) and the input buffer size
  23. (default is 2048 bytes - for my slow modem). You can hope for a
  24. better release, but don't hold your breath.

  26. Tell me if it crashes your Workbench, and don't set the input
  27. buffer size to 2MB. :)
